While ClearPlus™ Series Carbon Filters are most often used to treat city water, they can also be used to treat well water, rainwater, and surface water (lakes, streams, and rivers) that are microbiologically safe.They are a great solution for general taste and odor problems.A UV sterilizer should be installed after the ClearPlus™ Series Carbon Filter if it is used on a water source with uncertain microbiological quality.We do not recommend this product for the removal of hydrogen sulfide (rotten egg) odor as there are more effective solutions available for this particular problem – see hydrogen sulfide solutions here.
We use a premium grade of acid-washed coconut shell carbon from Karbonous Inc.This carbon is NSF/ANSI Standard 61 validated.As noted, it is acid washed to provide superior treatment by removing water-soluble impurities, increasing surface area, improving pH stability, and reducing carbon “fines” when first put into service.
